President's message
The Association for International Arbitration was originally born out of an innate desire to create and develop a truly global network of professionals in the field of arbitration, be they arbitrators, legal practitioners, academics, scholars or students. The ultimate aim was, and remains still, to promote the use of arbitration and other efficient and appropriate means of ADR at both an international and more localised level.
In today’s information era global trade and international relations continue to receive such high recognition, with trading parties on their way to being given full control over their commercial destiny, irrespective of the barriers that their diverse and distinguished legal systems often pose. The demands of such an age mean that there is no other mode of dispute resolution that more effectively affords the parties the benefit of circumventing complex legal uncertainties than arbitration.
The Association for International Arbitration is currently working from an intellectual perspective, endeavouring to bring together all enthusiastic and like minded professionals who are keen to work towards finding ways and means of promoting mutual co-operation and understanding.
We continue to strive to create an interest both in ADR and more specifically in arbitration amongst law student worldwide. This is done by providing them with a forum where they can access the latest legal research, seek advice and guidance from lecturers and professors from all across the globe and publish their own original research.
I thank you for your interest in the AIA.
Johan Billiet
President, Association for International Arbitration
